Youth Arrested in Netrokona for Sharing Videos of Vandalizing Religious Idols on Social Media

Netrokona: The Detective Branch (DB) of police today detained a young man for allegedly posting videos of vandalizing religious idols on social media platforms. The arrest took place at Barhatta Police Station in the Netrokona district.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the individual has been identified as 21-year-old Md. Jobayed Islam. He is the son of the late Abul Mia and Rahela Begum and resides in Paschimpara, post-Mohanganj, under the jurisdiction of Barhatta Police Station. The arrest was executed by a team from the DB of Netrokona district around 5:30 PM today.



Jobayed has been previously detained multiple times on allegations of sharing videos depicting the destruction of Hindu religious idols. These videos were posted on his Facebook ID, Ayanar Bhalobasha, Md. Jubayel, Facebook page, Asen Ananda Ney, and the TikTok account ‘@mdjubayed4062’. The content was reportedly shared with the intent to offend religious sentiments.



The authorities have seized the videos showing the destruction of idols, which had been uploaded on various social media platforms, and retained them as evidence. A formal case has been registered against Jobayed under section 16 of the Special Powers Act, 1974, at Barhatta Police Station.
