A young man was allegedly stabbed to death in the Kazir Dewri area of the port city early Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Moin Uddin, 29, son of Abdul Mabud of the Pathanna Gudam area of the city.
Officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station Jahidul Kabir said that the murder was the fallout of the victim’s refusal to pay extortion money for setting up a stall at the ongoing Trade Fair on the Polo ground.
“Moin was attacked when he was returning home from Dhaka, where he had gone for business. He died on his way to the hospital,” the officer added.
