Dhaka: A writ petition has been filed in the High Court of Bangladesh, seeking a directive to ban the broadcasting of Indian television channels within the country. The plea was submitted by Supreme Court lawyer Syeda Shahin Ara Laili through her legal representative, Md Aklas Uddin Bhuiyan, on December 2.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the writ also requests the court to halt the broadcast of advertisements targeting Bangladeshi consumers on Indian TV channels. Advocate Bhuiyan confirmed that several officials have been named as respondents in the case. These include the Information Secretary, Home Secretary, BTRC Chairman, Bangladesh Bank Governor, and the Director General of Bangladesh Television (BTV).

The move to file the petition reflects ongoing concerns about the influence of foreign media content on Bangladeshi culture and economy. The court’s decision on this matter could have significant implications for the media landscape in Bangladesh, especially concerning the consumption of foreig
n television content.
