Dhaka: A writ petition was filed with the High Court today seeking an investigation into allegations that microplastics have been detected in most toothpaste brands sold in the country’s market. Supreme Court lawyer Md Abdullah Al Mamun filed the writ, which is likely to be heard by a High Court division bench of Justice Khizir Ahmed Choudhury.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Environment and Social Development Organisation (ESDO) recently tested 34 toothpaste samples from 19 brands available in the country’s market. The study found that microplastics were detected in 26 samples, accounting for approximately 76.5 percent of the total.
