World Autism Awareness Day observed in Netrakona

The World Autism Awareness Day-2023 was observed in the district today.

In 2008, the United Nations General Assembly unanimously declared April 2 as the World Autism Awareness Day to highlight the needs to help improve the lives of children and adults who suffer from the disorder.

To mark the day, Netrakona district administration and district social service department jointly organized a discussion at the conference room of district social service department here.

Chaired by additional deputy commissioner (general)in Netrakona Mamun Khandaker, the meeting was addressed, among others, by deputy director of district social service department Mohammad Alal Uddin, chairman of Netrakona sader upazila Ataur Rahman Manik, additional police super Lutfur Rahman, penal chairman of Netrakona municipality SM Mahosin Alam, principal of Rajur Bazer Collegiate School Golam Mustafa and Dr. Rejaul Karim.

The meeting was followed by an hour long discussion on the overall situation on autism and disabilities in the district as well as in the country.

The speakers underlined the need for taking special care and nurture for flourishing talents of autistic and mentally retarded children side by side with ensuring their fundamental rights in the society.

Guardians of the autistic and mentally retarded children, local public representatives, NGO workers, civil society members, teachers and students were present in the meeting.
