Dhaka: Women's Affairs Reform Commission urged the interim government to ensure minimum one-third female representation in all the local government offices.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the reform commission made this recommendation along with a series of comprehensive reforms submitted to the Chief Adviser at Jamuna. WARC chief Shireen Parveen Haque presented the report with other commission members.
The reform commission has placed 15 recommendations to the interim government. Major recommendations include constitutional acknowledgement of women, inclusion of women in national and local governance, participation of women in the mass media, decentralization of power, and local-level development to establish women's interests and rights, as well as building a violence-free society for women and girls.
The proposed reforms cover various areas such as Constitution, Law and Women's Rights: The Foundation of Equality and Protection, and Institutional Systems and National Institutions for the Advancement of Women. Other areas include Decentralization and Local-Level Development to Establish Women's Interests and Rights, Violence-Free Society for Women and Girls, and Role of Women in Public Sphere: National and Local Levels.
The recommendations also emphasize women's participation in public administration, education, technology, and skill development for women's advancement. They highlight the importance of good health for women of all ages, participation in the economy, rights to property, labor and employment, safe migration of women workers, and sustainable social security for poverty reduction.
Further recommendations focus on women's participation in media, filmmaking, and publishing, their inclusion and development in sports and culture, and women's roles in disasters and climate change. Special emphasis is given to the need for the interim government to review existing laws to prevent violence against women and children.
