Sylhet: A young woman who came to Sylhet for visiting religious sites has allegedly been gang-raped in the city. Following the incident that took place on Monday night, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB-9) arrested three suspects on Tuesday.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the arrestees were identified as Atiqur Rahman, 40, of Airport Mahaldi area, Shamsul Haque, 45, of Loharpur area, and Ashikur Rahman, 30, of the city. RAB-9 Additional Superintendent of Police KM Shahidul Islam stated that the victim, a woman from Satkhira district, came to Sylhet to visit the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) and Hazrat Shah Paran (RA).
While returning to Sylhet Railway Station from the Shah Paran shrine on Monday night, Atiqur, a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver, allegedly took her to a house at Loharpar. There, the three suspects reportedly took turns to rape her throughout the night. The victim recounted the incident to locals on Tuesday morning, who then informed the elite force. Acting on this information, RAB conducted drives and arrested the three suspects from different locations.
The victim was admitted to the One-Stop Crisis Centre (OCC) at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for medical treatment.
