Natore: A 65-year-old woman suffered burn injuries in an acid attack by some miscreants in Gurudaspur upazila of Natore district early Sunday. The victim was identified as Halima Begum, mother of union parishad member Chameli Begum.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the victim’s family reported that Nazrul, a known criminal from Nazirpur village, had previously violated a child. Chameli Begum played a role in bringing Nazrul to justice by assisting in his capture and handing him over to the police along with witnesses. After securing bail, Nazrul and his associates allegedly threatened to retaliate against Chameli and her family.

The attack occurred around 2:00 am when Halima Begum stepped out of her house for a personal need. Nazrul and his accomplices, who were reportedly hiding near the fence, seized the opportunity to throw acid at her. Halima’s screams alerted her family members, causing the attackers to flee the scene.

Officer-in-Charge of Gurudaspur Police Station, Shafiquzzaman Sarkar, confirmed that police visited the scene on Monday morning after receiving information about the attack. He stated that legal action would be initiated once a formal complaint is filed by the victim or her family.
