Woman Remanded Over Baby Kidnap After Azimpur House Looting.

Dhaka: A court here today placed one Fatema Akter Shapla on a three-day remand in a case lodged over the kidnap of an eight-month-old baby after looting a house in the capital’s Azimpur area. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arobia Khanam passed the order as police produced Shapla before the court and pleaded to place her on a five-day remand in the case filed with the Lalbagh Police Station.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the case documents reveal that the accused, Fatema Akter Shapla, visited the home of the victim, Jannat Jaifa, on November 15. Jaifa’s mother, who works as a stenographer at the Ministry of Home Affairs, was acquainted with Shapla beforehand. Shapla allegedly managed to drug the mother, rendering her unconscious.

Subsequently, Shapla summoned three accomplices, and together they looted cash amounting to Taka 1.70 lakh and approximately seven tolas of gold ornaments from the residence. In addition to the theft, the group kidnapped the eight-month-old child, Jaifa.

The Rapid Action
Battalion (RAB) later succeeded in apprehending Fatema Akter Shapla in the Mohammadpur area and rescued the kidnapped baby, Jaifa, from her possession.
