Mymensingh:A tragic incident occurred in the Phulbaria upazila of Mymensingh where a woman and her three-year-old granddaughter died after being stung by a swarm of hornets. The attack took place on Thursday morning at Badihati Paschimpara.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the victims were identified as Sumeri Begum, aged 70, and her granddaughter Adiba Akter. Sumeri was the wife of Abdul Motaleb, and Adiba had been living with her grandmother while her mother, Rehana Akter, worked at a garment factory in Dhaka. Adiba's father, Aminul Islam, resides abroad.
Family members reported that a hornet nest was located in bushes beside a pond near their home. On Thursday morning, as Sumeri and Adiba went to the pond, they were attacked by the hornets, resulting in severe injuries to both.
The victims were initially taken to Phulbaria Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared Adiba dead. Sumeri was transferred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for further treatment, but she succumbed to her injuries around noon.
Officer-in-Charge of Phulbaria Police Station, Rashedul Islam, stated that an unnatural death case will be filed over the incident.
