Noakhali: A seven-day tree plantation campaign and tree fair commenced today in Noakhali district, under the banner of 'Let's do planned afforestation, build a green Bangladesh.' The event was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Khandaker Ishtiaq Ahmed at a function organized by the district administration and the Forest Department, held at the Eidgah ground in the town.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the inauguration was marked by a colorful rally, tree plantation activities, and a discussion meeting. During the event, checks amounting to Taka 18 lakh 72 thousand were distributed among 74 participants, highlighting the community's involvement and support for the campaign.
The fair features 24 stalls displaying seedlings of various species of fruit, flower, and forest trees, offering a diverse range of options for plantation enthusiasts. Deputy Commissioner Khandaker Ishtiaq Ahmed emphasized the importance of tree plantation for maintaining ecological balance, providing pure oxygen, controlling temperature, enhancing natural beauty, and preventing land erosion, floods, and droughts.
Prominent figures such as Superintendent of Police Md. Abdullah Al Faruk, Divisional Forest Officer Abu Yusuf, Assistant Conservator of Forests of the Coastal Forest Department AKM Arif Uz Zaman, and Wildlife and Biodiversity Conservation Officer Ibrahim Khalil were present at the event, showcasing their support for the green initiative.
