Dhaka: Tracy Ann Jacobson, Charge d'affaires of the US Embassy in Bangladesh, today expressed hope that the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary elections will be held in a free and peaceful manner. She shared her expectations with reporters following a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin at Nirbachan Bhaban in the city's Agargaon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Jacobson emphasized the US support for the interim government led by Professor Muhammad Yunus and the Election Commission. She noted that they are actively working on a roadmap to facilitate free and fair elections early next year. Jacobson expressed her aspiration for the elections to occur in a peaceful and secure environment.
Jacobson highlighted that the election will reflect the aspirations and dreams of the Bangladeshi people. She stated, "I came here with some of my colleagues to listen, learn, and understand." Furthermore, she clarified that the US Embassy and Government do not support any specific political party or politician, though they engage with political parties to comprehend their programs and objectives.
Jacobson reiterated that the decision of the election outcome is solely in the hands of the Bangladeshi people, expressing hope that the people's aspirations will be duly represented in the forthcoming elections.
