Week-Long Annual Sculpture Exhibition Begins at Dhaka University

Dhaka: The week-long Annual Sculpture Exhibition commenced today at the Osman Jamal Auditorium under the Faculty of Fine Arts at Dhaka University (DU). The Department of Sculpture organized this exhibition, currently hosted at the Zainul Gallery of the Faculty of Fine Arts.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, DU treasurer Professor M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury inaugurated the event as the chief guest, with Chairman of the Sculpture Department Nasimul Khabir presiding over the ceremony. The exhibition showcases a total of 71 artworks by 43 artists, celebrating the creative achievements within the university.

During the opening ceremony, the chief guest awarded certificates and accolades to six artists for their exceptional contributions. The award recipients include Pratyay Saha, who received the Artist Anwar Jahan Memorial Award, and Chinmoy Ghosh, who was honored with the Professor Abdur Razzaq Memorial Award. Other awardees were Oli Mia with the Sculptor Novera Ahmed Memorial Award, Mridha Md. Raiyan Azim with the Prof Hamiduzzaman Khan Memorial Award, Sumit Roy with the Best Medium Award, and Supriyo Kumar Ghosh with the Best Experimental Award.

Expressing his admiration for the artists, Prof Jahangir Alam Chowdhury remarked, "Art knows no boundaries because it has an eternal language through which artists find a place in people's hearts." The exhibition also features selected works created by students over the past academic year and is dedicated to the memory of the late sculptor Prof Hamiduzzaman Khan.

The event was attended by notable figures such as Fine Arts Faculty Dean Prof Azharul Islam Sheikh, Shilpacharya Zainul Abedin's son Engineer Moynul Abedin, Prof Lala Rukh Selim, and Convener of the exhibition Dr. Nasima Haque Mitu. The exhibition is open to all visitors from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm daily until November 8.
