Weak Earthquake Strikes Kuamut, Sabah

Kuamut:Kinabatangan A minor earthquake, registering 3.3 on the Richter scale, struck Kuamut at 532 am today, as reported by the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the earthquake's epicenter was located at 5.1 degrees north latitude and 116.8 degrees east longitude, with a depth of 118 kilometers. The location is approximately 223 kilometers northwest of Tarakan, Indonesia, and 32 kilometers southwest of Tongod, Sabah.

The department confirmed that the tremor posed no tsunami risk to Malaysia.

Following the earthquake report, Kinabatangan Fire and Rescue Station chief Suriyadi Drawis stated that a team of six firefighters conducted patrols and monitored the situation in Kinabatangan starting at 626 am. They inspected various locations including the Sabah Economic Development Corporation (Sedco) premises, Bukit Garam Library, Bukit Garam Point, and other areas considered at risk.

Suriyadi Drawis noted that no collapses or structural damage were found during the inspections. Additionally, the team advised residents to stay alert for potential aftershocks.
