Dhaka: Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md. Mahfuj Alam emphasized the responsibility of honoring the dreams and sacrifices of the July mass uprising martyrs and injured. “It is our duty to present that memory to the nation. We are trying to build the Bangladesh as per their aspirations,” he declared at the inaugural ceremony of the Publication Festival 2025, organized by the Department of Films and Publications (DFP) at Tathya Bhaban.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mahfuj stated that the government has undertaken multi-dimensional initiatives to publish books and produce films that focus on the July mass uprising. These efforts aim to bring documentaries, analytical publications, and creative works to the forefront, ensuring the historical event is accessible to the new generation.
Mahfuj expressed optimism about achieving quality publications and film production through the collaborative efforts of all relevant government institutions. He believes that this initiative will ensure the July uprising is remembered forever, with the martyrs’ sacrifices vividly commemorated for future generations.
He further explained that the production of films and research-based books on the July uprising has commenced, funded by the DFP’s own budget and a special allocation from the current fiscal year. The second volume of the book ‘Graffitite Bangladesh’ has already been published, with more publications underway.
Mahfuj noted that while previous publications were mostly descriptive, future works will adopt a more analytical approach. A review publication focusing on the past year’s progress, dream fulfillment, and future plans is also planned.
He highlighted the active role of government institutions, including PIB, PID, BTV, and Bangladesh Betar, in collecting, documenting, and disseminating the history of the July uprising. He acknowledged the contributions of private initiatives in this regard.
The event was chaired by DFP Director General Khaleda Begum, with notable attendees including Information and Broadcasting Secretary Mahbuba Farjana, Principal Information Officer Md. Nizamul Kabir, Mass Communication Department DG Faizul Haque, PIB DG Faruk Wasif, Bangladesh Film Archive DG Md. Abdul Jalil, and National Institute of Mass Communication Muhammad Hiruzzaman. Later, Adviser Mahfuj visited various stalls at the publication festival.
