Chattogram: Preparations for the upcoming elections in Chattogram are in full swing as voting materials have been successfully delivered to all 1,965 polling stations across the district. Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Zahidul Islam Miah confirmed that arrangements for voting in all 16 parliamentary constituencies have been completed under the supervision of three returning officers.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the delivery of ballot papers for both the referendum and the 13th national parliamentary election was finalized by 4:00 pm. Presiding officers and polling staff are currently setting up secret ballot rooms and security measures at their respective centers, ensuring that the district remains calm and compliant with the election code of conduct.

Zahidul Islam highlighted ongoing inspections in Sitakunda, Raozan, and Rangunia, in collaboration with vigilance and observation teams. Both candidates and voters are eagerly anticipating the election, which many describe as a “voting festival,” with polling set to begin at 7:30 am on Thursday.

As the election atmosphere in Chattogram becomes more vibrant, the city experienced a quieter Wednesday as many residents traveled to rural areas to cast their votes. The distribution of election equipment took place at the Chattogram District Stadium ground, where presiding officers received materials and completed booth setups.

Additional Regional Election Officer Mohammad Sakhawat Hossain confirmed the smooth completion of material distribution to polling stations, while preparations for upazila constituencies were handled efficiently by assistant returning officers.

Divisional Commissioner and Returning Officer Dr. Ziauddin assured that all necessary measures are in place to conduct a peaceful election. No risks are currently perceived, as law enforcement agencies work alongside the administration to maintain order. Important polling stations are under special surveillance to ensure security.

Zahidul Islam Miah emphasized the district’s tight security, with over 40,000 law enforcement personnel and approximately 115 judicial and executive magistrates deployed. These magistrates are overseeing strike forces and conducting round-the-clock patrols. Regular search operations have led to the seizure of cash, with legal action taken as per intelligence reports.

The main objective of this year’s election, Zahidul Islam stated, is to facilitate a secure and festive voting experience where every voter can safely cast their ballot and return home.

Chattogram RAB Commander Lieutenant Colonel Md. Hafizur Rahman assured that the Rapid Action Battalion is ready to respond decisively to any threats of violence or sabotage. RAB patrols have been active in key city areas, and the commander encouraged citizens to participate actively in electing leaders for a prosperous Bangladesh.

In total, 6,682,517 voters are registered in Chattogram’s 16 parliamentary constituencies. They include 3,483,877 males, 3,198,570 females, and 70 third-gender voters, who will cast their votes at the designated polling stations. The district administration has confirmed that all necessary security and administrative arrangements are in place to ensure a smooth voting process.
