Rajshahi: The great Victory Day-2025 was celebrated in the divisional city and the district with a renewed pledge for building a happy, prosperous, and non-communal new Bangladesh, inspired by the spirit of the Great War of Liberation.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the day began with the Commissioner of Rajshahi Division, Dr. ANM Bazlur Rashid, along with other prominent officials, placing floral wreaths at the martyred memorial plaque at the collectorate building premises. This was followed by the hoisting of the national flags at the circuit house premises, symbolizing national pride and unity.
A myriad of organizations, including the Rajshahi City Corporation, divisional and district administrations, police administration, and numerous political, socio-cultural, and professional bodies, participated in the day's events. They placed wreaths at various Shaheed Minars as a tribute to the sacrifices made by the martyrs.
The Bangladesh Nationalists Party (BNP) and other political parties organized victory rallies, wreath-placing ceremonies, discussion meetings, and cultural functions to mark the occasion. The day's events commenced with a 31-gun salute at dawn at the local Police Line Parade Ground, followed by the formal hoisting of the national flag accompanied by the national anthem, a student gathering, and a march-past at the Liberation War Memorial Stadium.
Crowds of people flocked to the city streets, paying homage to the heroes of 1971 who fought for the country's liberation. The Rajshahi Metropolitan Police, led by Commissioner Dr. Zillur Rahman, paid their respects by placing wreaths and observing a moment of silence at the Police Lines Memorial Plaque and Mass-grave.
Additional activities included the hoisting of the national flag across public and private buildings, and the adornment of road islands, roadsides, educational institutions, and buildings with national flags and colorful posters. The district administration honored freedom fighters with a reception at Shilpakala Academy, which was followed by a cultural function featuring local artists.
A day-long victory fair was inaugurated by Divisional Commissioner Dr. Bazlur Rashid at the academy premises. Improved meals were provided to residents of hospitals, jails, shishu paribars, vagabond centers, orphanages, and shelter homes.
Educational institutions such as Rajshahi University, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology, and others celebrated the day through various programs, emphasizing the importance of this historic day in the nation's history.
