Bhairab:A preliminary investigation has uncovered VAT evasion at J.I Impex Ltd, a company located in Bhairab, Kishoreganj, amounting to Taka 35.66 crore. This discovery followed an inspection conducted by the Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Dhaka (East).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the operation was carried out by a preventive team from the commissionerate headquarters and the Narsingdi VAT Division on September 8. This action was taken following a tip-off and was conducted under the direction of the commissioner and the leadership of a joint commissioner.
During the raid, the team seized a variety of commercial documents. These included 12 clip files, 98 bundles of documents, 22 plastic folders, a CPU, four tally books, four registers, a bundle of truck rental documents, two memo files, and 10 bundles containing details of truck drivers' expenses, along with computer-printed sales documents signed by the firm's officials.
Further examination of the documents revealed 72 folders or files containing monthly records of the company's goods supply to different establishments from 2023 to September 2026. The review of raw invoices and sales records showed sales totaling Taka 621.74 crore. Based on these findings, VAT evasion amounting to Taka 35.66 crore was identified.
The commissionerate has stated that legal proceedings to file a VAT evasion case against J.I Impex Ltd are currently underway.
