New york: The United States (US) and the United Kingdom (UK) announced a fresh aid commitment of US$ 96 million during the first-ever High-Level Conference on the Situation of the Rohingya Muslims and Other Minorities in Myanmar at the UN headquarters on Tuesday.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam shared this information in a post on his verified Facebook account. He stated that the US pledged a new donation of US$ 60 million, while the UK committed US$ 36 million.

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus addressed the ‘Opening Session of the High-Level Conference on the Situation of the Rohingya Muslims and Other Minorities in Myanmar’ at the United Nations Headquarters. He highlighted that repatriation is the ‘only peaceful solution’ to the ongoing Rohingya crisis and proposed a seven-point action plan. This plan includes creating a practical roadmap for the safe and dignified return of the Rohingyas, with a focus on stabilizing the Rakhine region.

Professor Yunus emphasized that, as funding decreases, initiating repatriation is the only peaceful path forward.
