Dhaka: US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen has engaged in pivotal discussions with key figures in the energy sector, including Javier LaRosa, President of Chevron, and Steven Kobos, President and CEO of Excelerate Energy. The meetings focused on enhancing cooperation and addressing Bangladesh’s expanding energy needs.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Chevron plays a critical role in Bangladesh’s energy landscape by supplying nearly 60% of the country’s natural gas. This resource is essential for powering homes, businesses, and driving economic growth throughout the nation. The US Embassy in Dhaka emphasized the significance of these contributions in a statement released on Wednesday.
In his discussions with Excelerate Energy’s Steven Kobos, Ambassador Christensen explored ways to leverage American innovation to bolster Bangladesh’s LNG and energy infrastructure. The goal is to provide cleaner and more reliable energy solutions for both homes and businesses, aligning with Bangladesh’s growing energy demands.
Recently, Ambassador Christensen spearheaded a delegation of 25 Bangladeshi business leaders to the SelectUSA Investment Summit in Washington, D.C., highlighting the ongoing efforts to enhance bilateral economic ties.
Additionally, Assistant US Trade Representative Brendan Lynch visited Bangladesh, where he engaged in ‘productive’ discussions with government officials, the US business community, Bangladeshi enterprises, and labor organizations. These talks centered on strengthening trade and investment relations, particularly through the implementation of the US-Bangladesh agreement on reciprocal trade. This agreement aims to foster economic growth in both nations by improving market access, removing investment barriers, and expanding commercial opportunities.
