Dhaka: The government has announced a significant change in the schedule of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations for 2027. This change aims to save students’ academic time and align the country’s education calendar with international standards.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon revealed the revised schedules at a press conference held at the Ministry of Education conference room. The SSC examinations are set to begin on January 7, 2027, concluding on February 6. Meanwhile, the HSC examinations will commence on June 6, 2027, and will end on July 13.
Dr. Milon highlighted that the examination routines have already been finalized and will be published soon. He emphasized the importance of reducing session congestion, noting that students currently lose valuable time preparing for exams and waiting for results. The minister pointed out that delays often lead to students completing SSC and HSC examinations at ages beyond the intended 16 and 18, respectively.
In addressing the alignment with international education systems, Dr. Milon stated the government plans to complete HSC exams by July to facilitate better synchronization with overseas admission cycles. Public universities will also be encouraged to coordinate their admission processes to commence within two months of result publications.
Regarding the role of coaching centers, Dr. Milon mentioned that enhancing classroom teaching effectiveness would naturally reduce the reliance on such centers. The government is also collaborating with organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO) to improve education quality, enhance teacher training, and promote reading habits among students.
Senior Ministry of Education officials attended the press conference to support the minister’s announcements and discuss the future direction of the country’s education system.
