US delegation visits AL president’s office

A delegation of the United States (US) visited Bangladesh Awami League President Sheikh Hasina's political office at Dhanmondi today.

The three-member delegation comprised of Esha Gupta, Daniel Marke and Geoffrey Mcdonald -- the representatives of US Institute For Peace (USIP) -- visited the office at 4 pm on Friday (October 13), a press release said.

Awami League (AL) Presidium Member Lieutenant Colonel (Retd) Muhammad Faruk Khan welcomed the delegation with bouquets of flower.

Awami League Advisory Council Member Enam Ahmed Chowdhury, International Affairs Secretary Dr. Shammi Ahmed and Deputy Secretary Sayem Khan were present, among others, on the occasion.

There was no talk about the upcoming election, said Dr. Shammi Ahmed after the meeting with the delegation of the US Institute for Peace.

Dr. Shammi Ahmed said Bangladesh's foreign policy and various issues were discussed in the meeting.

The issues like political tension of this subcontinent, which is also going to the international level, what is the role of Bangladesh and what is the thinking of Awami League also came up in the discussion.

"They wanted to know about our relationship with India and China as well as with the countries of the subcontinent. We have stated our stands to this end," she said.
