Dhaka: US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs S. Paul Kapur arrived in Dhaka tonight on a two-day visit aimed at strengthening strategic ties and expanding cooperation between Bangladesh and the United States.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the US Embassy in Dhaka issued a statement warmly welcoming Assistant Secretary Kapur to Bangladesh. The statement noted that during his visit, Kapur will engage with government officials and business leaders to fortify US-Bangladesh strategic ties.

Kapur’s schedule includes meetings with senior government officials and business leaders to discuss the expansion of bilateral trade and investment, enhancement of security cooperation, and advancement of shared interests in the Indo-Pacific region, as noted by US Mission Spokesperson Poornima Rai earlier.

Before arriving in Dhaka, Kapur spent time in New Delhi from March 1 to 3, where he held discussions on regional security and shared priorities concerning the Indo-Pacific region.

His visit to Bangladesh is part of a renewed diplomatic engagement between the two countries, following the formation of Bangladesh’s new government. Recently, US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen conducted a series of courtesy meetings with newly appointed cabinet members, focusing on potential cooperation across various sectors.
