RANGAMATI: A suspected member of the United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) was killed in a gunfight with joint forces led by the Bangladesh Army in the Perachhara area of Naniarchar Upazila, Rangamati district. The confrontation occurred early today as the forces conducted a search operation based on intelligence reports of a UPDF hideout.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) released a statement this evening detailing the incident. The joint forces commenced the operation around 5:30 a.m. after receiving intelligence about the hideout. Upon the arrival of law enforcement, the suspected UPDF members reportedly opened fire, leading to a gunfight. In the aftermath, one UPDF member was found dead at the scene while others fled.
Following the exchange, the joint forces recovered several items from the location, including one M-16 assault rifle, two rounds of MG/Sniper ammunition, 90 rounds of rifle ammunition, one walkie-talkie set, and 12 mobile phone sets. The operation remains ongoing as the forces continue efforts to locate the fleeing suspects, as stated by the ISPR.
