Dhaka: Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki emphasized the need to maintain unity among the forces of the July mass upsurge to preserve its spirit. He warned that division, hatred, or discrimination could potentially lead to the return of fascism. Farooki made these remarks during a discussion held at the Poet Shamsur Rahman auditorium of the Bangla Academy.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the discussion, titled ‘July Mass Upsurge-anniversary of the aggrieved poets-writers,’ highlighted the importance of creating a cultural narrative centered on the July mass upsurge. Farooki stressed that such a narrative would help engrain the movement’s significance and relevance in the minds and consciences of the people.
The event featured contributions from lyricist Shahidullah Farayezi and poets Rayhan Zahir, Faruk Khan, Tanzim Tanim, Kajol Rashid Shaheen, and Sanjida Khan Dipty, mother of July martyred Anas. The poets were honored for their contributions to the uprising, underscoring the ongoing impact of the movement on cultural and social spheres.
