Dhaka: Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Niaz Ahmad Khan today said the role of youth during any crisis has made the nation hopeful time and again. The DU VC made these remarks while inaugurating the Festival of Youth-2026 at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban auditorium.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event was graced by several dignitaries including Pro-vice chancellors (Admin) Professor Dr Sayema Huq Bidisha, Pro-vice chancellor (Education) Professor Dr Mamun Ahmed, treasurer Professor Dr M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) vice-president M Abu Sadique, and senior vice president of Management FBS Club Ltd. Mohammad Rezaul Billah, who attended as special guests. The function, jointly organized by Dhaka University and DUCSU, was presided over by the Convener of the Festival of Youth-2026, Professor Dr Mohammad Jashim Uddin.
The ceremony commenced with the recitation of the holy Quran, setting a solemn tone for the proceedings. Professor Dr Niaz Ahmad Khan emphasized the critical role of youth as a driving force in national development, acknowledging their contributions through the event. However, he also expressed concerns about potential divisions among the youth, which he noted could hinder national progress.
Following the inauguration, a rally was held, starting from the Senate Bhaban and culminating at the main premises of the university. The event also saw the inauguration of a tree plantation program by the attending guests, which was followed by a vibrant cultural program, adding a celebratory note to the day's activities.
