Dhaka: British High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Sarah Cooke, today announced the United Kingdom’s recognition of the courage and sacrifices demonstrated by the youth during the student-led uprising in Bangladesh in July and August. She emphasized the UK’s call for a democratic and inclusive future for the nation.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Cooke made these remarks during her visit to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR), accompanied by Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum. The visit highlighted the ongoing efforts by the UK Emergency Medical Team currently operating at the institute to aid those affected by the unrest.

“My visit to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation today with Hon. Health Adviser was another reminder of the horrific violence that happened during the Jul-Aug protests,” stated Cooke. The UK medical team, known for their expertise, has been actively engaged in consulting injured students at NITOR since November
5.

The team is conducting two to three complex surgeries daily and is also providing essential physiotherapy and rehabilitation services. “Speaking to the patients I met today, it was clear that the UK Emergency Medical Team has provided much-needed specialised treatment working together with the hospital team,” Cooke added.
