Dhaka: University Grants Commission (UGC) will hold a three-day regional higher education conference in December this year in the capital involving representatives of the University Grants Commission in the SAARC member states. The UGC authority took the decision at a meeting held here today with UGC Chairman Professor D. S M A Faiz in the chair, said a press release.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, UGC members including Dr. Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hossain, and Prof. Dr. Md. Saidur Rahman attended the meeting. Key figures such as Senior Education Specialist of the World Bank TM Asaduzzaman, Lead Economist of the World Bank in South Asia Dr. Harsha Aturupane, and Director of the Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT) Project Prof. Dr. Asaduzzaman were also present.
The meeting resolved to invite Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus to attend the conference as the chief guest. A steering committee has been formed to ensure the success of the conference.
In addition, representatives from the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) member states, along with vice-chancellors, scholars, and educationalists from the SAARC countries, will participate in the conference.
With financial backing from the ‘Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation’ project, the conference aims to unite regional UGC networks and strengthen cooperation to enhance the quality of higher education and research collaboration.
