Bangladesh university grants commission (ugc) chairman professor dr mamun ahmed has called for transforming the country’s universities into clean: Speaking as the chief guest at a discussion marking the 23rd University Day of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (RUET), Dr Ahmed emphasized the importance of a conducive environment for education and research.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Dr Mamun Ahmed assured that the UGC would provide maximum support to achieve the goal of clean and green campuses. He stated that real development of a university goes beyond constructing new buildings or infrastructure and includes ensuring a safe and healthy environment for students, teachers, and researchers.
Dr Ahmed praised RUET’s current peaceful and green environment and encouraged the authorities to enhance the campus’s planning and greenery upon completing ongoing development projects. He further highlighted the significance of quality education and good governance, noting that higher education should not only focus on awarding degrees but also on equipping students with modern knowledge, ethical standards, human values, and social responsibility to become responsible citizens.
The UGC chairman stressed the importance of maintaining an environment of mutual respect, trust, and tolerance between teachers and students. RUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr S M Abdur Razzaq presided over the programme, with Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Akhtar Hossain speaking as the special guest. The event was attended by deans of different faculties, teachers, and students.
