Dhaka: A court here today imposed a travel ban on tax commissioner MM Fazlul Haque of Dhaka Taxes Zone-03 and additional commissioner Abdur Rashid Miah of Rangpur Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate. Judge Shihabul Islam of Dhaka Senior Special Judge Court passed the order, allowing two separate pleas of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the applications stated that an inquiry is underway against MM Fazlul Haque and Abdur Rashid Miah based on the verification of the asset declarations submitted under their own signatures. The Anti-Corruption Commission expressed concerns that the individuals may attempt to flee the country during the investigation.
"Reliable sources informed investigators that the individuals concerned may flee the country during the course of the inquiry. Therefore, to ensure a proper and unhindered inquiry, it is essential to impose a travel ban on them," the application added.
