Chandpur: The court here today sentenced two individuals to death and another to life imprisonment for the murder of a madrasha student in Kachua upazila of the district back in 2015. Judge of Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-2 Syed Tafazzal Hossain Hiru delivered the verdict this afternoon.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the court also imposed a fine of Taka one lakh each on the death-row convicts and Taka 50,000 on the individual sentenced to life. The death-row convicts have been identified as Shamim Hossain and Sohag Hossain, both aged 28 and residents of Kachua upazila. The individual receiving a life sentence is Md. Rabbi Hossain, also 28, from Faraji Bari-Kandirpar village.

The prosecution revealed that the convicts were responsible for the murder of 12-year-old madrasha student Milon Hossain, the son of Tajul Islam from Kandirpar village. The murder was reportedly linked to a land dispute and took place on June 29, 2015. The police discovered Milon’s body in a crop field on July 2, 2015.

Following the discovery, Milon’s elder brother, Ripon Hossain, filed a murder case with the Kachua Police Station. The police subsequently apprehended the three accused. The investigating officer, then Sub-Inspector Md. Wazed Ali, submitted the charge sheet to the court on January 8, 2016.

After a thorough examination of 22 witnesses and various pieces of evidence, the judge found the accused guilty, leading to the sentences being handed down, as confirmed by Additional Public Prosecutor Kamal Uddin Ahmed.
