Dhaka: The government has announced an increase in the monthly “special benefit” for public sector employees, including military personnel, civil servants, and pensioners, with the revised rates effective from July. This decision aims to provide additional financial support to public sector workers across various departments.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Ministry of Finance issued a notification on Monday detailing the changes. The notification specifies that the special allowance for current employees will be increased to a minimum of Tk 1,500, up from the previous Tk 1,000. Pensioners, on the other hand, will see their minimum special benefit rise to Tk 750 from Tk 500.
The new structure also includes provisions for pensioners whose benefits are below Tk 17,389. These individuals will receive an allowance at 15 percent of their pension, while those above this threshold will receive 10 percent. This adjustment covers a broad range of public sector entities, including joint forces, police, autonomous and state-owned bodies, banks, insurance companies, financial institutions, and the Border Guard Bangladesh.
To ensure prompt implementation, a copy of the notification has been dispatched to the Cabinet Secretary, the Principal Secretary to the Office of the Chief Adviser, the Office of the Auditor General and Comptroller, as well as all concerned ministries and government departments. This measure underscores the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of its employees and retirees.
