Dhaka: A Chattogram court today sentenced two individuals to death for the murder of a woman in the city’s Akbarshah area, which occurred in 2020 due to a family dispute.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the court of Chattogram Fourth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Sirajam Munira delivered the verdict, convicting the victim’s husband, Md. Farhad, aged 32, and his uncle, Md. Selim alias Monir, aged 37. Both convicted individuals hail from Bhola district.
The court imposed a fine of Tk 20,000 on each of the convicts. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional six months of imprisonment.
The prosecution revealed that the victim, Jasmine Begum, was in a romantic relationship with Md. Farhad, leading to their marriage despite both having previous families. On September 21, 2020, Farhad lured Jasmine to meet him in the Bahaddarhat area. Upon her arrival, he strangled her and later disposed of the body.
Police discovered Jasmine’s decomposed body in the Akbarshah hilly area on October 2. Her younger brother subsequently filed a murder case at Akbarshah Police Station. The charge sheet was submitted to the court on December 28, 2021, and charges were formally framed on August 17, 2022.
