Two More Children Die with Measles-Like Symptoms in 24 Hours

Dhaka: Two more children have succumbed to measles-like symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours, as reported by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). These latest fatalities underscore the ongoing public health challenge posed by the suspected measles outbreak.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a press release from the DGHS control room revealed that 961 new suspected measles cases were reported within the last 24 hours. This surge has raised the cumulative total of suspected cases to 56,572 since the outbreak began on March 15. The distribution of these cases spans multiple divisions, with Dhaka Division being the most affected, reporting 472 new cases. Other divisions include Chattogram with 167 cases, Barishal with 129, Rajshahi with 37, Sylhet and Khulna each with 55, Mymensingh with 44, and Rangpur with 2 cases.



In the same 24-hour period, 108 new confirmed measles cases were identified, increasing the total confirmed cases to 7,524 since mid-March. Hospital admissions for suspected measles have reached 41,028, with 36,645 patients having recovered and been discharged. The death toll from confirmed measles stands at 74, while deaths from suspected measles, including the recent fatalities, have climbed to 389. Dhaka Division continues to bear the brunt of the outbreak, with a staggering 25,491 suspected cases, of which 5,215 have been confirmed as measles.
