Cumilla: At least two people were killed and seven others injured in a violent clash between two rival groups over local dominance in Nangalkot upazila of Cumilla. Officer-in-Charge of Nangalkot Police Station Arifur Rahman confirmed the incident.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the incident occurred around 12:30pm in Aliyara village under Boxganj Union. The confrontation involved supporters of Abul Khayer, a local member, and Saleh Ahmed, another member. The deceased were identified as Delwar Hossain Nayan, 35, and Md Abdur Razzak, 29. Several of the injured were taken to Cumilla Medical College Hospital in critical condition, while others were admitted to Nangalkot Upazila Health Complex.
Following the clash, tension escalated in the area, prompting the deployment of police and army personnel to restore order. Additional security measures were implemented to prevent further violence.
Locals revealed that a long-standing feud exists between the two groups. Previously, on August 3, 2025, a former union parishad member named Alauddin was killed during a clash involving the same factions. This incident had resulted in vandalism and arson, forcing several families to flee the area.
The situation recently intensified after the displaced families returned home following army intervention, eventually leading to the latest outbreak of violence on Friday. Officer-in-Charge Arifur Rahman stated that no case had been filed yet regarding the incident. Law enforcement is closely monitoring the situation to prevent further unrest.
