Dhaka: Two construction workers were killed and eight others injured in a road accident in the Bangra area under Kalihati upazila of the district this afternoon.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the deceased were identified as Zahar Ali, 40, from the Konabari area, and Muktar Ali, 45, a resident of the Baniafor area of the upazila. The tragic incident took place on the Tangail-Jamalpur highway around 2:30 pm when a Dhaka-bound bus collided with a pickup van from behind, injuring ten passengers on the pickup van, as stated by Tangail Sadar Hospital Police Box In-charge Alamgir Hossain.
Following the accident, locals hurried to the scene and transported the injured to Tangail General Hospital. Unfortunately, two of the injured succumbed to their injuries at the hospital. Among the injured, two individuals were transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for further treatment.
Police reported that the pickup van was carrying 20 construction workers who were returning home from Kalihati after completing their work in the Ghuni Salanga area of the upazila.
