Two Indians Arrested with Firearms and Ammunition at Benapole

Benapole: Members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today arrested two Indian nationals along with one pistol and 93 rounds of bullets at Benapole in Jashore district, according to a press release of the force. The arrested persons were identified as Gurjit Saluja (31), son of Jas Pal Saluja, and Ram Das Nawadi (24), son of Malkia Nawadi; both are residents of Chandra Shikar Ward, Sadar, Bitul, under Madhya Pradesh, India.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a patrol team of the Benapole Integrated Check Post (ICP) under the Jashore Battalion (49 BGB) conducted a special operation at the import-export gate of ICP. During this operation, they searched a truck (No. CG04PU5288) loaded with green chillies imported from India and seized one pistol and 93 rounds of bullets from their possessions. The driver and the helper of the truck, both Indian citizens, were also arrested during this operation.



The estimated value of the seized pistol and bullets is TK 1.03 lakh. The arrested Indian citizens, along with the seized pistol and ammunition, were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station. Jessore Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Saifullah Siddiqui stated that the BGB has been conducting intelligence activities and regular operations at the frontiers to prevent the smuggling of weapons, gold, silver, drugs, dollars, rupees, hundis, and various smuggling goods in the border areas.



As part of the continued operation, the BGB successfully seized the pistol and ammunition. The BGB officer has vowed to continue the operation to prevent such smuggling at the border.
