Dhaka: A court in Dhaka has ordered the imprisonment of two individuals connected to the murder of Tanjil Jahan Islam Tamim, a broadcast officer at Deepto TV. The ruling came after the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge, Zakir Hossain Galib, rejected the bail applications of Faizur Ahmed, CEO of Pleasant Properties, and Ibrahim, the company's administrative manager.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the two defendants had previously been granted an eight-week interim bail by the High Court. Upon the expiration of this bail period, they surrendered to the lower court and requested an extension, which was strongly contested by the prosecution. Senior attorney Masud Ahmed Talukder represented the defendants, while the counsel for the plaintiff, Abrar Khan Taslim, argued against the bail request. Sultan Ahmed, the victim's father and plaintiff in the case, was present during the hearing and also opposed the bail applications.
Case documents reveal that Tamim's death was linked to a protracted dispute between multiple landowners and the developer, Pleasant Properties, over the allocation of flats. The agreement stipulated that each landowner would receive five flats; however, Tamim's father, Sultan Ahmed, was only handed two flats in 2023, with the developer delaying the transfer of the remaining units. The situation escalated when the company sold one of the three remaining flats promised to Sultan Ahmed. On October 10, Tamim was overseeing work in the two flats that had been transferred when he was attacked by individuals allegedly employed by the developer. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, Tamim was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Following the incident, Sultan Ahmed filed a case against 16 individuals at the Hatirjheel Police Station, prompting legal proceedings that have now led to the imprisonment of the two accused.
