Two Get Life Imprisonment in Jamalpur Rape Case

Jamalpur: A court here today convicted two persons and sentenced them to life-term imprisonment for raping a girl in Dewanganj upazila of the district in 2004. Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 Muhammad Abdur Rahim delivered the verdict, a court official said.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the convicts are Md Aijur Hossain, 35, son of Azmesh Ali and Golam Mostafa alias Bhasha, 35, son of Md Jamat Ali, residents of Sanandabari Sabujpara village of the upazila. The court also fined Aijur Taka one lakh and Mostafa Taka 50,000.

The prosecution detailed that on February 4, 2004, convict Md Aijur Hossain forcibly raped a 13-year-old girl at the village. Later, the victim's uncle filed a case with Dewanganj Police Station. Police, after investigation, submitted a charge-sheet against Md Aijur Rahman and Golam Mostafa also for assisting the rapist.

The judge, after examining eight witnesses and evidence, found them guilty and handed down the punishment.
