Two Former Lawmakers Among 13 Awami League Members Arrested Under Anti-Terrorism Act

Dhaka: Thirteen leaders and activists of the Awami League, including two ex-lawmakers, have been apprehended under the Anti-Terrorism Act from various locations across the capital in the last 24 hours. Deputy Commissioner of DB (media and public relations) Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed the arrests, highlighting the legal framework under which the arrests were made.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the individuals taken into custody include former lawmaker from the Brahmanbaria-5 constituency, Faizur Rahman Badal, and former lawmaker from women’s reserved seat-324, Tamanna Nusrat Bubli. The arrests were executed by different divisions of the Detective Branch (DB). Faizur Rahman Badal was detained by a squad from the DB Motijheel Division in the Nikunja area under Khilkhet Police Station at around 10:20 pm on Sunday. Meanwhile, Bubli was apprehended in a raid conducted by the DB-Cyber Division in the Mohammadpur Police Station area on the same day.



In addition to the former lawmakers, eleven other Awami League members were arrested. They include Md. Manikurur Rahman, President of Sheikh Hasina Trinamool Sangrami League and former Titumir College Chhatra League member; Md. Abdur Razzak Shakil, former Jatiya Sramik League Ward 22 Rampura Legal Affairs Secretary; Md. Alam Matbar, Bangladesh Sramik Federation Secretary; Md. Saiful Islam, a member of Sheikh Hasina Trinamool Sangrami League; Md. Makched, a member of Jhenaidah district Maheshpur Thana Jubo League; Md. Kayem Hossain, a member of Chuadanga district Jibannagar Thana Raipur Union Awami League; Riyazuddin Ahmed Manik, former Chawkbazar Police Station Ward 31 Awami League member; Md. Nazrul Islam Sumon, a member of Bangabandhu Sainik League; Ebadul Haque Sabuj, Dhaka Metropolitan South Jubo League Education Training and Library Secretary; Mahbubul Haque Hirak, former vice-president of Chhatra League Dhaka Metropolitan South; and Abiruzzaman alias Abir, Jagannath University Chhatra League leader.
