Narsingdi: Police arrested two drug peddlers along with a large quantity of Indian-made Phensedyl syrup and seized a pickup van from Shibpur upazila of Narsingdi.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Md. Abul Qayes Akanda, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Narsingdi District DB, confirmed the information in the afternoon. The arrestees were identified as Borhan Uddin, aged 22, son of Sharif Uddin of Nayamati village under Gowainghat upazila of Sylhet district, and Sahid Ahmed, aged 25, son of Haji Anisul Haque of Ramprasad village under Jaintapur upazila of the same district.
DB police, acting on a tip-off, deployed a team led by Sub-Inspector (SI) Mobarak Hossain, along with Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Dipak Kumar and other members of the force, to conduct a drive in the Shashpur area on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Shibpur upazila around 11:30 am on Saturday. During the operation, the team intercepted a Dhaka-bound pickup van and searched it, recovering 70 bottles of Indian-made Phensedyl syrup concealed inside the vehicle. The pickup van used for transporting the drugs was also seized, and the two drug peddlers were arrested from the spot.
OC Md Abul Qayes Akanda stated that the district DB police have been conducting regular drives to prevent theft, robbery, and snatching, recover illegal arms and drugs, arrest criminals, and maintain law and order in society. He added that such anti-drug operations would continue. Legal proceedings are underway to file a case under the Narcotics Control Act with Shibpur Police Station in this connection.
