Fatikchhari: Two individuals, including a local leader from the banned Awami League’s women’s wing, have been detained in Fatikchhari upazila under accusations of producing promotional leaflets for the party.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the detainees are identified as Sumi Akhter, a former union parishad member and leader of Mohila Awami League from the upazila’s Baktapur area, and Ujjal, a computer operator. They were apprehended at a shopping complex in Fatikchhari Sadar on Monday night. This action was taken by leaders and activists of Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal, who had received information about the leaflets promoting the banned Awami League being printed at a computer shop.
Md Ibrahim, vice-president of the municipal Jubo Dal, stated that the duo was caught while allegedly preparing the leaflets, after which law enforcement was promptly informed. The suspects were subsequently handed over to the police.
Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Fatikchhari Police Station, Rabiul Alam Khan, said that the two individuals have been brought in for questioning. An investigation into the allegations is currently underway, and legal actions are being pursued accordingly.
