Barishal: Two newly appointed administrators of Barishal City Corporation (BCC) and Barishal Zila Parishad (BZP) have formally assumed their respective responsibilities, pledging to work for development. Organizing Secretary of BNP Central Committee for Barishal Division Advocate Bilkis Akter Jahan Shirin took charge as the administrator of BCC around 12:30 pm. The occasion was marked by a reception and gathering of distinguished persons at the premises of the Central Shaheed Minar in Barishal. She later assumed her responsibilities at her office in the city corporation's Nagar Auditorium building. Divisional Commissioner and BCC Administrator Mohammad Mahfuzur Rahman formally handed over the charge to her, in the presence of the Police Commissioner of Barishal, a Deputy Inspector General (DIG), the commanding officer of RAB-8, and various BNP leaders.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Bilkis Akter Jahan Shirin expressed her intention to serve the people rather than act merely as an administrator and called for cooperation from all. She expressed her hopes to build a well-managed city corporation with the cooperation and advice of all and urged everyone to offer sincere support. She also highlighted that the Prime Minister has provided Eid gifts to the sanitation workers of the City Corporation.
In a related development, Assistant Organizing Secretary of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Central Committee for Barishal Division Akon Quddusur Rahman assumed charge as the BZP administrator at around 11:30 am at the administrator's office. The charge was formally handed over to him by Additional Divisional Commissioner Ahsan Habib, who previously served as the administrator of the Zila Parishad. The event was attended by leaders of Barishal city and district BNP and members of civil society.
Quddusur Rahman expressed his commitment to run the institution in a fair, transparent, and corruption-free manner following the directives of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. He emphasized efforts to transform the BZP into an effective, people-oriented, modern, and accountable institution with the cooperation of all. Additionally, he mentioned that measures would be taken to utilize the assets of the Zila Parishad for the welfare of the people.
