DHAKA: Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam announced today that the interim government of Bangladesh anticipates a significant enhancement in relations with the United States during Donald Trump's presidency. During a press briefing at the Foreign Service Academy, Alam expressed hope that ties between the two nations would strengthen and reach new heights under Trump's leadership. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Alam acknowledged that Bangladesh already maintains a positive relationship with the USA, which has evolved since the August revolution in Bangladesh. He emphasized the US's commitment to promoting democracy globally and noted that the Bangladesh interim government's efforts to transition from a 15-year autocratic regime have been recognized by the US, leading to increased collaboration. Alam further noted the potential deepening of relations during Trump's presidency, citing the influential role of Professor Yunus, who maintains personal friendships with leading figures from bot h the Democratic and Republican parties. Addressing a question about Trump's recent comments on Bangladesh, Alam suggested that the president-elect might have been misinformed. In a significant political development, Donald Trump secured a sweeping victory in the US presidential election, defeating Kamala Harris in a remarkable comeback. Additionally, Alam mentioned that the Bangladeshi government is contemplating the formation of a new commission to reform the country's education sector. Deputy Press Secretaries Abul Kalam Azad Majumder and Apurba Jahangir were also present at the briefing.
