Florida: Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is currently in Florida for a meeting with former U.S. President Donald Trump as tensions rise over impending tariff threats. The meeting aims to address and potentially resolve the trade issues that have been straining relations between Canada and the United States. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Bangladesh has reaffirmed at the United Nations that every citizen, regardless of religious identity, has the right to practice their religion or express their views freely. This commitment was emphasized by Ambassador Tareq Md Ariful Islam, Bangladesh Permanent Representative to the UN and other International Organisations in Geneva, during the 17th Session of the UN Forum on Minority. Ambassador Islam highlighted that ensuring the safety and security of every citizen, including minority communities, remains a priority for the interim Government of Bangladesh. The Bangladesh envoy also addressed misconceptions surrounding the arrest of Mr. Chinmoy Das, clarifying that his arrest was based on specific charges and the matter is currently being handled by the court. Despite recent incidents, such as the killing of a Muslim lawyer, the Bangladesh government has taken immediate action to maintain peace and prevent further unrest. The envoy assured that the government is committed to upholding religious harmony and thwarting any attempts to undermine minority rights. Ambassador Islam also noted that the violence following the events of August 5th was driven by political and personal factors, rather than sectarian motives. He emphasized that the incidents affected mainly those with political affiliations and were not targeted attacks on minority communities. The interim government, led by Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus, has received strong support from people across all faiths in Bangladesh. However, the envoy expressed concern over the spread of misinformation regarding minority persecution in the country and urged foreign journalists to visit Bangladesh to witness the actual situation on the ground.
