Dhaka: A tree plantation programme has been inaugurated in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) following the removal of sacrificial animal waste during Eid-ul-Azha. DNCC Administrator Md. Safiqul Islam Khan today inaugurated the programme at Tejgaon Polytechnic playground and the adjoining road divider in the capital, said a press release.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, during the inauguration, the administrator stated that although some trees in the Uttara metro rail area were partially damaged due to the sacrificial animal market, the area has now been transformed into a greener and more pleasant environment through fresh plantation. He highlighted that there was misinformation about the metro rail area's environment circulated on social media using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology, aimed at undermining the government and DNCC.
He encouraged journalists to visit the area to see the actual situation and urged them to present accurate and truthful information to the public. The tree plantation programme is part of an effort to motivate citizens to engage in positive activities in the post-Eid period. As part of the 'Clean and Green Dhaka' initiative, tree plantation will gradually be extended to various areas, including the DNCC industrial zone.
The DNCC administrator expressed gratitude towards the leaseholder of the Tejgaon Polytechnic cattle market and local residents for their support in this initiative. He also noted that inspections of different markets revealed that waste and infrastructure removal had been completed in many areas, with ongoing work progressing swiftly at remaining sites.
In response to journalists' questions, he mentioned that leaseholders were responsible for waste and bamboo frame removal, and any failure to fulfill these duties would result in deductions from their security deposit, in compliance with legal requirements. The administrator thanked journalists for their role in supporting urban development, planning, and sacrificial waste removal activities through information and news coverage.
He further acknowledged the cooperation of city residents and the media in maintaining cleanliness in the lanes and by-lanes of the capital during the post-sacrifice period.
