Khulna: BNP Information Affairs Secretary Azizul Bari Helal has stated that the country's development and the welfare of its people can be achieved through the implementation of the ideals of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. He shared these remarks while addressing a discussion and food distribution programme at Sarwar Khan College ground in Dighalia, Khulna, in commemoration of the 45th martyrdom anniversary of Ziaur Rahman.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Helal emphasized the significance of the proposed Padma Barrage project at Pangsha in Rajbari. He noted that excess water released through the Farakka Barrage could be stored there and later utilized when the upstream flow diminishes. He further highlighted the importance of the Teesta Barrage and the effective management of the country's water resources.
Helal stressed that public interest should be prioritized in the management of rivers and water bodies. He warned against allowing any individual exclusive control over water bodies through lease arrangements. Reflecting on Ziaur Rahman's leadership, he noted that Rahman was a leader who proactively reached out to the masses, understanding their problems and concerns firsthand.
He mentioned that agricultural production saw a notable increase under Zia's leadership, which enabled the country to not only satisfy domestic demand but also to export rice. Additionally, Helal spoke about BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman's efforts in connecting with ordinary people, understanding their aspirations, and working towards building a transformed Bangladesh.
Helal claimed that the BNP has been gaining public confidence by adhering to the ideals and political philosophy of Ziaur Rahman. The programme was attended by leaders and activists of the BNP and its associate bodies, along with people from various sectors. Special prayers were offered for the eternal peace of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, followed by the distribution of food.
