Khulna: A tree plantation campaign has been launched to create a buffer along the coastline of Koyra upazila in Khulna district, aiming to protect the region from natural disasters while maintaining environmental balance.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the tree plantation program began on Monday with the planting of saplings of various fruit, timber, and medicinal trees on the premises of Ghugrakati Fazil Madrasa in the district. The campaign is a joint effort by the Shamsur Rahman Foundation and Siratul Huda Trust.
Local leaders of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, along with representatives from the Shamsur Rahman Foundation and Siratul Huda Trust, attended the event. Teachers and students were also present, emphasizing the collaborative community effort in this environmental initiative.
During the program, speakers encouraged the community to plant saplings of different tree varieties during the rainy season, highlighting the dual benefits of financial gain and environmental protection. They noted the importance of tree plantation in the coastal belt, which faces frequent natural events such as cyclones, riverbank erosion, and tidal surges. Both government and private sector initiatives are deemed essential to sustain the tree plantation efforts in this vulnerable coastal region.
