Dhaka: A court here today imposed a travel ban on former joint commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Biplob Kumar Sarker, along with his wife Hosne Ara Begum, his brother Pranay Kumar Sarker, and Hosne Ara’s sister, Shahnara Begum.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court’s vacation bench judge Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun issued the order. The decision came after the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a plea citing serious allegations against Biplob Kumar Sarker and his family members.

The petition described that an investigation officer has been appointed to examine accusations that Biplob Kumar Sarker and others, during their tenure as public officials, committed violations under the Money Laundering Prevention Act. It is alleged they deposited and withdrew Taka 30 crore through 341 bank accounts in their names and through those linked to them.
