Dhaka: A court here today imposed a travel ban on Md Moazzem Hossain, former assistant private secretary (APS) to the then Local Government, Rural Development (LGRD) and Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, over graft allegations. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the ACC plea highlights that during his tenure as the APS to the Adviser for LGRD and Sports of the interim government, Moazzem allegedly amassed hundreds of crores of taka through influence peddling, tender manipulation, and extortion. The plea further states that allegations of money laundering are currently under inquiry, as he reportedly transferred the illicit funds abroad and acquired assets in various countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Canada, and the United States.
The ACC's plea noted, 'Since the accused may leave the country at any time, it is deemed necessary, in the interest of a fair and proper investigation, to impose restrictions on his foreign travel until the inquiry proceedings are completed.'
